Be it his tweets on Yakub Memon or his recent statement about feeling like a ‘raped woman’, actor Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan has always stood up for his son.

Actor Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan has always stood by his son’s actions. This time, too, after Salman compared being tired after a wrestling shoot to feeling like a raped woman , his father was the one who decided to apologise on behalf of his son, “Undoubtedly what Salman said is wrong, the simile, example and the context. The intention was not wrong. Nevertheless, I apologise on behalf of his family his fans & his friends. Forgiveness is to pardon the unpardonable or it is no virtue at all,” he posted on Twitter.

However, this isn’t the only time that the 80-year-old has had to make a case for his son. Here are incidents in which Salim Khan has apologised or defended his son.

Recently, when Salman’s selection as India’s goodwill ambassador for the Rio Olympics stirred up a controversy, Salim jumped to his son’s defence. He lashed out at Milkha Singh, who had criticised the decision to select Salman and tweeted, “Salman Khan may not have competed but is an A level swimmer, cyclist and weight lifter. Sportsmen are performing because of sports lovers like us.”

In 2015, when Salman wrote a series of controversial tweets defending 1993 serial bomb blast convict Yakub Memon calling him ‘innocent’ and that his brother ‘Tiger Memon should have been hanged’, father Salim Khan jumped to his rescue. Salman had tweeted, “Hang Tiger. Brother is being hanged for Tiger. Arre Where is Tiger? Get tiger hang him. Parade him not his brother.” Papa Salim almost immediately said, “Whatever Salman has written is ridiculous and meaningless. Salman is ignorant of the issue and people should not take him seriously.” On his father’s insistence, Salman also deleted the tweets. “My dad called & said I should retract my tweets as they have the potential to create misunderstanding. I hereby retract them. I would like to unconditionally apologise for any misunderstanding I may have created unintentionally,” he posted.

In 2015, as Salman’s hearing date in the infamous 2002 hit-and-run case was coming close, Salim said that it was not a hit-and-run case as his son didn’t go missing after the accident. He had also said that his son has helped a number of accident victims, but no one talks about that. In 2013 he had said that his son is innocent and that he is an ordinary citizen and was being prosecuted for being a celebrity.
