Hindi has never been a problem: Prithviraj Sukumaran

Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is making his Bollywood debut with Rani Mukerji starrer Aiyaa, has already bagged Yash Raj Films’ Aurangzeb before his debut Hindi film release. The actor has however quashed rumours that Mukerji put in a word for him for the role.

“I got Aurangzeb because I gave an audition and passed it. It’s a good thing that Yash Raj Films is showing confidence in me even before my first (Hindi) film has come out. There have been completely baseless rumours even before. So please have your fun and I’ll enjoy these too by giving clarifications,” Prithviraj told us.

Acting down south since over a decade, Prithviraj reveals that Aiyaa was not a deliberate attempt to venture into Hindi cinema.

“Aiyaa is not the first Hindi script that came to me. It is the first Hindi film that I chose to do. In fact, the script was such that I would have done it irrespective of language barriers. It was not designed to be my Bollywood debut,” said the 29-year-old, who would “love to shift to Mumbai regardless of what happens in Bollywood”.

As for language problems, he says, “Hindi has never been a trouble. In fact, Hindi is the only language I can speak and write apart from Malayalam and English.”

Prithviraj also had to acquire a chiselled body for his role. He said, “I’ve done that before, so this was not new. What was new was to be treated as an object of desire by a woman.”
