Actor Vicky Kaushal is celebrating his 31st birthday today. Here are some of his unseen short films and plays.

How’s the josh? High, very high for Vicky Kaushal who delivered the tenth highest grosser of Bollywood, Uri: The Surgical Strike, this year. In just four years since making his Bollywood debut as a male lead with Masaan, Vicky has carved a niche in the industry, one remarkable performance at a time. But there are a few more works of the actor that deserve attention.

Before Vicky impressed the audience and the critics with his nuanced performance in Masaan, Vicky had already featured in quite a few notable works during his academic life. He played a cunning love guru in an untitled play and a Haryanvi policeman in another college play.

A short film titled Saanjh featuring Vicky in a lean, unpolished avatar is another example of how the actor found his calling much before his rise to stardom. Dressed in a simple black shirt with a few buttons left open and sporting a goatee, Vicky smokes a cigarette with one hand and holds a drink in other as he talks about his wish to commit suicide.

The panache with which he plays a rogue policeman carrying a stick and mouthing Haryanvi dialogues is one of his must-watch performances. The actor worked in a two-character college play, which featured him in a negative role. How he teases a woman in custody could make his fans hate his character but fall in love with his performance.

Post his blink-and-miss appearances in a few films such as Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana in which he played young Kunal Kapoor, Vicky played the lead in a short film, titled Geek Out. The actor played a regular guy who dreams of being a vigilante in the Vasan Bala film, released in 2013.

The actor once told Filmfare in an interview, “I saw people working from 9am to 5pm with their heads stuck in front of the computers… I couldn’t see myself doing it. As a kid, I always took part in inter-school dance or skit competitions and enjoyed them. I wanted to pursue that dream. I go into a trance on a film set.”
