Daasdev trailer: Meet Devdas with political ambition
What if Devdas was a scion to a political empire? That is Sudhir Mishra’s Daasdev for you in a nutshell, now only if the trailer was as compelling as this central premise.
After a long build-up spread over days, the first trailer of Sudhir Mishra’s Daasdev is out. Starring Richa Chadha, Rahul Bhat and Aditi Rao Hydari in lead roles, the film is slated to hit theatres on March 23. The film’s release was postponed twice due to Manoj Bajpayee and Sidharth Malhotra-starrer Aiyaary shifting its release; the film will now release on March 23.

The film will also feature Mukkabaaz star Vineet Kumar Singh, Vipin Sharma, Saurabh Shukla and Anurag Kashyap in pivotal roles.
Set in the Indian heartland, Daasdev is a love story with Uttar Pradesh politics as the backdrop. The film is said to follow a path “contrary to the plot of the classic novel and is a romantic thriller that talks about addiction to power and love”.
The 2.14 minute trailer shows what director Mishra and his actors have been reiterating all this while -- Daasdev is ‘the journey from daas to dev’. The trailer establishes the three lead characters - Aditi’s Chandni aka Chandramukhi, Rahul’s Dev aka Devdas and Richa’s Paro. However, the loosely edited trailer fails to grip us. The power play has no nuance and characters are mean for no reason. Even the lead actors seem to be sleepwalking through the trailer.
Will the film be better than the trailer? We will know on March 23.
