Accused names TMC leaders before CBI in Bengal job scam case

More than ₹100 crore was allegedly raised by TMC leaders from job aspirants to employ them as teachers and staff at state-run schools across West Bengal between 2014 and 2021, CBI officials probing the case said.

In May last year, the Calcutta high court directed CBI to probe the appointment of non-teaching staff and teaching staff by the West Bengal School Service Commission and West Bengal Board of Secondary Education between 2014 and 2021.

Housing scheme irregularities spark political slugfest in Bengal

The West Bengal government has struck off names of hundreds of people under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) housing scheme for the poor after it found applications of people having multistoried homes were approved in at least nine districts, officials said. This has led to a political slugfest in the run up to the panchayat elections to be held in early 2023.

Deaths in police firing fan tensions near Assam-Meghalaya border

In February 2003, Myrten’s elder brother Dia, and five others from Mukroh were killed in a militant attack on the village. Nineteen years later, Myrten’s husband, Thal Shadap, 48, and the four others from Mukroh were killed after being chased and shot by policemen and forest guards from Assam on November 22. Their deaths that have triggered a furore, and rekindled a five-decade old border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam.
