Punjab to hire 236 law officers, 58 posts reserved for SCs

As per an advertisement, two posts are of senior additional advocates general, 44 of additional advocates general, 30 of senior deputy advocates general, 61 of deputy advocates general, 92 of assistant advocates general and seven posts of advocates on record. The last date to apply for the same would be December 6

An official said an advertisement was put out to engage SC law officers in August 2022, but the process could not be completed.

Single NRI Australian father gets custody of surrogate child

The high court bench of justice Anupinder Singh Grewal ordered that the single NRI father would be the sole guardian of the child. The HC bench said the father will have custody of the child and would further decide whether the boy will remain in India or Australia.

The court observed that when the issue for consideration before the court involves the rights of a child, the court has parens patriae (parent of the nation) jurisdiction and it is of paramount importance for this court to safeguard the interest of the child, keeping in view his welfare and issue necessary directions in this regard.

Non-appearance of cops in drug trials: Charges framed but over 16,000 NDPS cases pending for more than two years in Punjab

The report signed by state administrative secretary (home) Gurkirat Kirpal Singh was prepared following directions of the high court on October 17. It was to be submitted on October 31, but the case could not be taken up on the said date and would be considered on November 16.

As per the state DGP’s submissions in the high court, Punjab records 12,000 to 14,000 FIRs under the NDPS Act every year.

PCS judicial exam: HC turns down request for revaluation of answer sheets

At least 159 posts were advertised by the Punjab Public Service Commission on September 6, 2022. The preliminary exam was held on January 22 this year, followed by main examination held from June 2 to June 4 this year
