No public hospital for 5 years: Vikhroli residents up in arms

Residents of Vikhroli in Mumbai are protesting the delay in constructing a new hospital after the closure of the only civic-run peripheral hospital in the area in 2018. The BMC had planned to set up a temporary hospital but has struggled to find a bidder for the project. Frustrated residents, who went on a hunger strike in May, have intensified their protests, citing the lack of healthcare services in the area. FDA issues stop work notice to Bademiya

Mumbai's Bademiya restaurant, known for its kebabs, has been issued a stop work notice by the Food and Drugs Administration for operating without a food licence. This is the third restaurant to be issued a notice in the last month. The FDA has been carrying out inspections on eateries following the closure of Papa Pancho da Dhaba restaurant last month after a customer found a rat in their dish.

Bademiya is the third restaurant that FDA has issued stop work notice to in the last one month for non-compliance of FDA regulations. Mumbai FDA shuts down restaurant in Mahim and a cloud kitchen, fines two others in hygiene drive. 68 eateries inspected, violations found.

According to FDA officials, Mumbai Darbar in Mahim was asked to shut operations as it was found to be functioning without a food licence. BMC to expedite work for 10 bed-ICU at Sewri TB hospital

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is expediting the preparation of a 10-bed ICU at the Sewri TB Hospital in Mumbai in response to the struggle faced by a multi-drug tuberculosis patient for an ICU bed. The ICU will be a negative pressure Intermediate Respiratory Care Unit (IRCU) for patients with acute respiratory failure. TB survivors and activists are calling for more ICU facilities for TB patients in the city.

Pvt hospitals reluctant to join BMC’s effort to combat TB

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has found only one private hospital willing to collaborate on drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) centres, despite appeals to major corporate hospitals. Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital has agreed to partner with BMC, offering access to the latest TB drugs. BMC is urging other hospitals to change their approach and provide dedicated wards for TB patients. Mumbai has the highest TB burden in India, with 65,556 new cases recorded in 2022. JJ Hospital’s super-speciality building construction gets an 18-month extension

The super speciality hospital was planned in 2010, and Ratnakar Gaikwad, then chief secretary, had put it on the fast track. When the BJP government took over in 2014, Mahajan got all the sanctions. The Bhoomi poojan was done in 2019, and the work order was issued in July 2020. The contractor was supposed to complete the work in 36 months

BMC to discontinue outsourcing doctors for its peripheral ICUs

Burn centre at Cooper Hospital to get major upgrade

Doctor’s body raises concerns about unemployment among PG students

MARD representatives said since there are more eligible candidates, around 1,100 students will be unemployed for three to four months. Dr Pravin Dhage, who represented PG doctors in the meeting with DMER said, “There are 14 PG specialty (courses), and in most of the courses, the number of seats is much less than the number of qualified candidates. Many of us will be unemployed for a while, and completing the bond is compulsory.”
