VTR installs system to check wild animals from straying outside

In a bid to reduce the incidents of man-animal conflict around the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in Bihar’s West Champaran district, which have claimed a number of human lives, forest officials have begun installing animal intrusion detection and repellent systems (ANIDERS) on the fringes

VTR is the lone tiger reserve in Bihar and has more than 30 big cats as per the last count. (HT file)

Migrant worker from Bihar found dead in Srinagar, kin say shot

The family of the deceased, identified as Balister Choudhary from Dumwaliya in Bagaha subdivision, came to know about the incident after a caller informed his wife on Tuesday night and shared the social media account of Srinagar police, which had circulated the body’s picture and a message for the purposes of identification.

Liquor smuggler killed, another injured in shoot-out with police

East Champaran’s SP, Dr Kumar Ashish, who is also in-charge of Bettiah police in West Champaran, said that acting on a tip-off about arrival of a huge consignment of liquor from Uttar Pradesh through waterways, a police team laid a trap between Bharauwa Ghat and Birbhal Ghat under Srinagar police station.

Tiger linked to 9 deaths shot dead by authorities in Bihar

The forest department, however, has not provided any conclusive evidence to prove the tiger was responsible for all nine deaths, which had led to protests by villagers living near the reserve, seeking killing of the big cat to end the fear.
