Eco activists remove man-made blockages stopping tidal water to flamingo habitat

Every year, thousands of flamingos flock to the wetland, but this year in absence of water, the number is expected to decline drastically. Activists alleged that blocking tidal water flow was aimed at stopping flamingos from occupying the area and using the place for other purposes such as shrimp farming

Earlier, resident activist Shruti Agarwal found that the inlet was systematically blocked with huge concrete blocks, mud and plastic sheets. As a result, the water which would flow into the wetland during high tide was obstructed, thereby affecting the flora and fauna of the region. (HT Photo)

“When my son tried to fetch the spoon from one of the plates, the nanny snatched the spoon and slapped him on the face. She then shoved my son away from the table and he could be seen shaken by the assault. No one from the centre came to console him or reprimand the nanny for her behaviour,” the mother said.

Those travelling to Pune, Goa told to take alternate route via Uran Phata

The Navi Mumbai traffic police have asked travellers to take a signal-free route that passes via Uran Phata to join the Mumbai-Pune Expressway — the route to Pune and Goa, as well as other popular weekend destinations like Alibag and Lonavla — instead of the Sion-Panvel highway, which connects Belapur to Kalamboli junction

A 10% increase of vehicular traffic was witnessed on Saturday, as city residents sought to drive out of town, Thane traffic officials said. Commuters faced at least 30-minute delays as traffic moved slowly on both the Mumbai Pune expressway as well as the Mumbai Nashik highway. (HT)
