The rate of crimes against women – number of cases reported per 1 lakh people – was 60.9 in 2018 in Maharashtra, compared to 58.8 across the country.

25-yr-old son held for murder after woman’s body parts found in Mumbai

Sohail Shaikh was picked up on the basis of the leads obtained after scanning footage from CCTVs in the area. Police said the two fought on December 29, and Shaikh, who was drunk, allegedly strangled the woman in a fit of rage.

‘PMC Bank fraud worth Rs 6.6K-crore’: ED in 7,000-page charge sheet

ED has pegged the scam at Rs 6,670 crore and named Housing Development Infrastructure Limited’s (HDIL) promoter Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan, his son Sarang, PMC Bank’s former managing director Joy Thomas and ex-chairperson Waryam Singh in the charge sheet.

ED attaches Iqbal Mirchi’s properties worth 600 crore in city, Lonavala

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday provisionally attached immovable properties with an estimated market value of ₹600 crore, including two floors of Ceejay House in Worli, in the case involving deceased smuggler Iqbal Mirchi. Born Muhammed Iqbal Memon, Mirchi was allegedly an aide of gangster Dawood Ibrahim and was an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

Taxman suspended on graft charges

Allegations of the lavish spends made by Pandit in the weddings of his two sons and in the acquisition of costly flats in Mumbai were found to be prima facie true.

Based on the findings of investigations conducted by both the Central Board of Indirect Tax and Customs (CBIC) and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the government decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Pandit and he was put under immediate suspension on November 22.(HT file)

INS Viraat, Navy’s ‘grand old lady’, to go under the hammer

Known as the ‘Grand Old Lady’, INS Viraat entered service with the Indian Navy in 1987 and was decommissioned in 2017 after spending spent nearly 2,250 days at sea, sailing 5,88,288 nautical miles.
