A resident of Hariharpur village in Azamgarh district, Mishra was born in 1936. He shifted to Muzzaffarpur in Bihar for nine years to learn music under the tutelage of Abdul Ghani Khan. He finally came to Banaras (now Varanasi) where he was groomed in music by Padm Bhushan Thakur Jai Dev Singh.

EVEN AFTER the Centre rejected the allegations that telephones of some Samajwadi Party leaders were being tapped, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday reiterated his charges saying he would provide documentary evidence in this matter. Addressing a public rally here on the death anniversary of noted SP leader Raj Narayan, Yadav lashed out at the Congress high command for allegedly conspiring to topple his government. They failed in their nefarious designs and have now indulged in tapping the phones of our leaders .
