Morbi tragedy death toll hits 134

The number of dead in Gujarat’s Morbi district climbed to 134 on Monday, a day after a pedestrian bridge collapsed over the river Machchu, plunging a still unknown number of weekend revellers who had gathered on it into the waters below.

How bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Morbi happened

Eyewitnesses said there were close to 400 to 450 people on the Morbi bridge on Sunday evening and the iron cables, on which the bridge was suspended, caved in from the middle at about 6.40pm

Gujarat police order inquiry into flogging incident after furore

Kapadvanj deputy superintendent of police VM Solanki on Thursday was directed to hold a detailed probe and submit a report on the purported incident that took place on October 3, the official said on condition of anonymity.
