The 50x25 metres Allahabad University (AU) Multi-Purpose Hall? built with great hopes of taking sporting activities on the campus to great heights? is lying in sheer neglect for the past two decades thanks to the callous attitude of the varsity officials. While pigeons freely fly in and out and the wild weeds grow on the rooftops, sporting goods worth lakhs remains unused and rotting in the hall at a time when varsity's sports enthusiasts are crying for better facilities and equipment on the campus.

Arts Faculty has been made a vehicle-free zone and we have undertaken identity-card checking drives with gusto. Security guards are on duty 24 hours a day on all our campuses with a shift change taking place every eight hours. We are also considering closing the science faculty gate located near the Nehru Science Complex to better manage security of the science faculty campus that has witnessed some incidents during the recent weeks.

Faulty designs causing tractor-trolley mishaps

A STUDY by an assistant professor of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) has found that majority of tractor-trolley accidents taking place in the city as well as in the state are due to their faulty designs. The study found that lack of knowledge of the iron-smiths who use empirical design rules to connect the tractors to the trolleys are leading to their overturning and causing death and injuries to thousands every year.

AU submits Rs 13.65 crore plan for cricket promotion

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) has forwarded an ambitious proposal of Rs 13.65 crore to the Inter-University Sports Board of India, a body of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), for promotion of cricket on the varsity as well as college campuses of the city. The proposal will be considered under a special Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) Infrastructure Subsidy Scheme that the BCCI plans to implement in 10 universities, two from each zone, for promotion of cricket in universities and colleges of India.

ALLAHABAD'S INDIAN Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-A) owes around Rs 50 lakh to Allahabad University (AU) as rent for the rooms and space that the Deemed University occupies in AU's Nehru Science Complex. Science City project on revival path

AFTER THREE years in the cold storage, the much hyped Allahabad Science City project is on the verge of kicking-off once again.
