Flash strike by Sahara pilots
PASSENGERS ACROSS the country scheduled to fly Air Sahara were stranded on Sunday as pilots went on mass leave, opposing the merger between Sahara and Jet Airways. In Delhi, about 12 Air Sahara flights were cancelled. Only some passengers received prior intimation of the cancellations. Those who had booked their tickets through travel agents were the worst-hit. Most passengers were endorsed to Jet or Kingfisher, subject to availability.

In Guwahati and Bhubaneswar, unions went on a "go slow". Till late on Wednesday night, the unions said the strike was indefinite. In Delhi, even as the cabinet approved the entire bidding process for the modernisation of the Delhi and Mumbai airports, the Left softened its stance considerably.

SPECIAL TASK force (STF) sleuths on Tuesday night finally succeeded to trace leading timber merchant and Cricket Association of Lucknow (CAL) secretary Khaliq Mukhtar Khan from a hideout in a Patna village in Bihar. The cops not only rescued Khan but also nabbed seven of the gangsters who had kidnapped the victim on December 29 from Varanasi. Five others were also detained along with the kidnappers. About a week back only, the kidnappers had posted a cassette containing recorded voice of the victim, his photograph in detention and a letter carrying a demand of Rs 1 crore ransom.

The Centre on Thursday agreed to deploy six additional BSF companies in Assam to bring an end to the violence directed at Biharis. Trains leaving Assam are at full capacity, a railways spokesman said. "Seats are already full in all the trains," he said.
