OPD footfall dipped by 57%, surgeries by 43% at one of Delhi’s biggest hospitals

The most significant decline in the number of patients visiting and getting admitted to the hospital was during the Covid-19 lockdown imposed in March 2020.

WHO approval to Covaxin likely in 4-6 weeks, says chief scientist

Bharat Biotech announced Covaxin’s Phase-3 clinical trial data recently. As per the trial report, Covaxin has been found to be 77.8% effective against symptomatic Covid-19.

Delta variant: No antibodies in 16% after second dose of Covishield, says study

The titres of the neutralising antibodies – that specifically target the Sars-CoV-2 virus and kill it or prevent it from entering human cells – were also lower against the Delta variant as compared to the B1 variant that led to the first wave of infections in India.

After two doses, the neutralising antibodies could not be detected in 16.1% of the samples, the study found. (Bloomberg)

Covid-19: Panels to investigate plaints of hefty bills

Explaining the slow rate of case disposal, district magistrate of central Delhi Akriti Sagar said each complaint is being investigated by a dedicated district-level committee, which is meeting at least once a week and conducting hearings.

The findings were based on the sequential analysis of samples from 1,000 people across ten locations part of the study, which found that the antibodies in them were mostly declining before they shot up again.

The study found that 80% of the participants had antibodies against Sars-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, in June, after the fourth wave of infections (and the second nationwide) in Delhi.(PTI )

ISRO calls private entities to set up new launch sites

Currently, the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota is the country’s only spaceport operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation. Another spaceport is under development at Tamil Nadu’s Toothukudi.

Oxygen audit panel report not final, says subgroup chief Dr Guleria

A political row has erupted between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the interim report. The report suggested there was “gross discrepancy” in recording the requirement of medical oxygen by 183 of Delhi’s hospitals, which asked for 1,140MT as opposed to the actual requirement of 209MT.

Delta variant bypassed immunity, triggered repeat infections: Study

The findings are by researchers in India and India, and takes into account outbreak patterns among healthcare workers in three Indian cities, and lab analysis of how the variant reacts to antibodies as well as the way in which the virus infects human cells, particularly in the lungs.

“Delta variant has the maximum transmissibility yet seen, and reduces neutralisation protection from previous infections and vaccines,” said Dr Anurag Agarwal, one of the authors of the study.

Delhi govt directs authorities to triple Covid-19 shots

Kids, adults have similar antibodies: AIIMS Sero Survey

The seroprevalence, presence of virus-fighting antibodies against Sars-CoV-2, among children was 55.7% across five study sites, in comparison to 63.5% among adults -- the difference was judged to be statistically insignificant.

In Delhi, which was one of the five sites for the study, the researchers found that 74.7% of the population – both children and adults – had been exposed to the infection.

Only 4.09% fully vaccinated healthcare staff across Apollo Hospitals got Covid-19

The proportion of fully vaccinated healthcare workers developing an infection at Apollo Group was much lower than what has been reported from public hospitals like Lok Nayak and associated Maulana Azad Medical College or Christian Medical College Vellore.
