Iranian weightlifter Sohrab Moradi broke the world record in the 94kg snatch event by lifting 189kg. He eclipsed the previous mark of 188kg set by Akakios Kakiavilis of Greece in 1999.

Squash recap: India’s double bronze

Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa had to be content with bronze medals in women’s singles after losing to their respective opponents in the semifinals.

While Dipika lost to defending champion Nicol David of Malaysia in the first semifinal, Joshna was shown the door by Malaysian Sivasangari Subramaniam of Malaysia.

Boxing glory

Pavitra registered a comprehensive win over Pakistan’s Rukhsana Perveen to proceed to the quarterfinals of women’s 60 kg weight category in the Asian Games. Pavitra, the former National Games gold medallist, dominated the bout that saw the scoreline reading 10-8 in her favour after the referees were forced to stop the competition even before the opening round ended.
