World Dance Day: Where does Delhi go dancing?

Shaking a leg - ­true-blue Delhi style! If you haven't done it yet, now is perhaps the best time to put on your dancing shoes. On World Dance Day today, we tell you where in Delhi - that has one of the most thriving dance cultures - can you have a great time dancing.

*Specialised forms
How about enrolling yourself at one of those expert academies from where Delhi's dance wizards learn their moves? National Ballet & Academy Trust of India, classical dance classes of Radha and Raja Reddy, Shiamak Davar institute of performing Arts, Delhi Dance Academy and The Danceworx - there are plenty of cool options to choose from. You can also check out Sadhya Dance Classes to learn organised choreography on dance forms such as contemporary, Bollywood jazz, salsa, hip-hop and street funk.

*Club dancing
If you are looking to sway to eclectic music, head to one of the cool clubs in places such as Hauz Khas, Connaught Place, Chanakyapuri and Saket that have some of city's best DJs at work. Soak in the cosy ambience and sip some fine wine to make the best of the moment.

*Alternate dance scene
This is an emerging alternate dance scene in Delhi that promotes new and emerging artists. "Dancing one's wits out at house parties is the latest trend among the Capital's dance lovers. It's a sub-­cultural movement as people are tired of paying huge bills and being a part of the pub circuit where only the commercial artists are invited.

People don't want to be part of a mixed crowd but want to form their own circle," says Pankaj Mullick founder, Art Collide. These parties are a hit because they offer the comfort of being at home. A few places in Hauz Khas, such as Ace of flames host beat box and hip-hop dance events," he adds.

*For the love of free style
In love with bling and all things Punjabi? Go to a Punjabi wedding and dance the night away, throwing never-ending requests at the DJ and swinging to dhol beats. Pull off a naagin dance along with potbellied Chachaji and Mamaji at a typical baraat, taking up half of the dance floor and requesting the same song to be played all night.

A padosi ki party, where hip-hop mixed with Bollywood moves results in new moves being discovered, can also turn out to be great fun. Or, catch a live Honey Singh performance at one of the college campuses for a kickass weekend fix. Go wild; perform mosh pits as this could well be your moment of claim to fame.
