Enjoy a layered musical and dance performance in the city
The programme will see six generations of the renowned kathak exponent of the Jaipur gharana, Pandit Rajendra Gangani, come together on stage in his presence and deliver a 50-minute performance celebrating their legacy that spans over a century.
Weekend in the city is set to begin on a musical high as The Project Ganganis, a fusion ensemble that marries Indian, western and middle eastern rhythms with the intricacies of Kathak will perform at a school auditorium in the Gurugram today .
The programme will see six generations of the renowned kathak exponent of the Jaipur gharana, Pandit Rajendra Gangani, come together on stage in his presence and deliver a 50-minute performance celebrating their legacy that spans over a century. The first part of the performance will be a jugalbandi between classical music and vocals with the rhythm and beat of Kathak, while the second part will be a pure percussion performance where all the members of the Gangani family perform their solo renditions on musical instruments like tabla, pakhawaj, harmonium, cajon and darbuka (Egyptian instruments).
The ensemble comprises of Mohit and Nishit Gangani on the tabla, Ashish Gangani on pakhawaj, Aditya Gagani on cajon and darbuka, Sanjeet Gangani, Hitesh Gangani, Ipsa Narul, Anshika Agrawal, Diksha Tripathi performing kathak, Mahender Songara on harmonium and for the vocals and Ashmit Dev on keyboard.
Pandit Rajendra Gangani, who is the recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natya Academy Award, will be seeing his scions perform on stage for the first time in a fusion ensemble. He said, “Creative experimentation is the audience’s choice and need of the hour today, but the purity and legacy of an art form cannot be diluted. Besides all art forms have their distinct identity and all of them are a form of devotion. Har kala ke raste alag alag hain, par manzil toh wahi hai. ”
