World No Tobacco Day: 4 ways to quit tobacco consumption

Every year, May 31 is observed as World No Tobacco Day to spread awareness on the dangers of using tobacco, as consumption of tobacco is harmful to health.

Here are some tips to quit smoking and reduce tobacco consumption.

Opt for nicotine therapy

Nicotine replacement therapies in consultation with your doctor, such as nicotine gum, lozenges, nasal sprays, and inhalers can help overcome intense cravings for tobacco.

Chew on something

Whenever you get tobacco cravings, chew on sugar-free gum or a hard candy. You can also munch healthy snacks to resist and delay the cravings.

Sip water

Sipping water in short intervals can help reduce the desire to smoke and consume tobacco. It helps increase the oxygen supply to your brain and prevents nicotine cravings.

Exercise

Exercising helps boost tobacco withdrawal. It keeps intense cravings at bay and promotes a healthy lifestyle. Practice light exercises initially to take care of your lung health.

Consult a doctor immediately if you notice withdrawal symptoms such as chest congestion, cough, shortness of breath, anxiety, and sleep deprivation. Avoid going back to tobacco consumption as it can lead to further health issues.
