Rajasthan's new CM Bhajan Lal Sharma: 6 things to know

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on December 12, 2023, named Bhajan Lal Sharma, first-time MP from Sanganer, as the chief minister of Rajasthan.

Here are six things to know about Bhajan Lal Sharma.

He is a voter in Rajasthan's Bharatpur constituency.

He completed his masters in politics from Rajasthan University, Jaipur in 1993.

The 56-year-old is considered close to the party's president JP Nadda.

He has served as BJP's general secretary for four tenures. 

In the recently held Rajasthan Assembly elections 2023, he defeated Indian National Congress candidate Pushpendra Bhardwaj by a margin of over 48,000 votes.

According to his election affidavit, his father's name is Kishan Swaroop Sharma. 

 Diya Kumari has been announced as the deputy chief minister of Rajasthan.

Divya shares the post of the deputy chief minister with Prem Chand Bairwa.

Vasudev Devnani has been announced as the new Rajasthan Assembly Speaker.

The naming of the elected ministers comes days after the BJP swept the Rajasthan Assembly elections by winning 115 seats out of 199.
