Chandrayaan 3 Launch: 6 Key Points About The Mission

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its third mission to the Moon, Chandrayaan-3 at 2.35 pm on July 14 from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh

If the mission is successful, India will become the fourth country, after the United States, Russia and China, to achieve this phenomenal feat

Here are six key points to know about India's Chandrayaan 3 mission

The journey from Earth to the Moon for the launched spacecraft is evaluated to take around a month and it is expected to land on August 23

Upon landing, it will function for one lunar day, which is about 14 Earth days. The scientists have aspirations to conduct a study of the lunar soil, explore the moon's surface with a rover, and record moon quakes

The spacecraft was launched on a GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle

Chandrayaan-3 comprises a propulsion module, lander and rover

According to ISRO, the mission incorporated robust measures to ensure a successful landing, even in the event of component failures

During the Chandrayaan-2 mission, ISRO lost contact with the lander due to a software glitch
