10 mesmerising images of stars captured by NASA

The universe is filled with innumerable stars made up of giant balls of hot gas. Here is a look at ten mesmerising images of stars shared by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Captured by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, this image shows Eta Carinae, one of the brightest stars in the Carina nebula.

This stunning image captures the formation of a star in the star-forming region known as IRAS 16562-3959, which lies within the Milky Way galaxy in the constellation Scorpius.

Captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, this image features the dying star CW Leonis engulfed in dusty clouds of carbon. This carbon star is closest to Earth, at a distance of 400 light-years.

Taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, this image shows a halo of light surrounding the distant star V838. It is located about 20,000 light-years away from Earth.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured this breathtaking pic which shows the sun emitting a strong solar flare.

This image shows the early stages of the formation of a star, which is over 9,000 light-years away in the constellation Taurus.

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope took this image of the glittering star RS Puppis, which is ten times more massive than the Sun and is 6,500 light-years away.

This breathtaking image features the star AG Carinae in its final stage and captures dust bubbles and gas emitted by it.

Captured by NASA's Spitzer and GALEX telescopes, this stunning image shows the pink core of a dying star in its final stages of nuclear fusion in the Helix Nebula.

Captured by the Digitized Sky Survey and NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, this image shows a cluster of young stars in the North America Nebula, which lies 1500 light-years away from Earth.
