Rare and fascinating NASA pics of daily life aboard the ISS

Living in space sounds exciting, but it’s not as easy.

Imagine floating beside the International Space Station with Earth below you. It looks calm and beautiful, but space can be very dangerous.

Gravity is weaker on the ISS, so muscles and bones don’t work as hard and start to weaken. Astronauts must exercise every day to stay strong.

Astronauts need air to breathe, clean water to drink, and a stable environment.

There are no ups or downs in space. Astronauts often feel sick at first because their brains need time to adjust.

In space, fluids move to the upper body. This gives astronauts a puffy, red face.

Without the right equipment, you would survive only a few seconds in space.

Life on the ISS causes astronauts to stretch and grow a few extra centimetres.
