Meet Wisdom: The world’s oldest living bird

Wisdom is a Laysan albatross and is the oldest known wild bird in the world.

Who is Wisdom?

Wisdom was first ringed by biologist Chandler Robbins in 1956, making her 74 years old today.

Laysan albatrosses start breeding at 5, but Wisdom waited up to 10 years to start.

Breeding at a young age

Recently, Wisdom has been joined by Akeakamaiare, her current mate.

Wisdom has laid around 50-60 eggs and raised about 35 chicks during her lifetime.

A super mum

At 74, Wisdom is probably a grandmother, or even a great-grandmother, by now.

Despite her age, Wisdom recently laid an egg at the approximate age of 74.

A remarkable achievement

Wisdom is not just the world’s oldest wild bird; she is a symbol of resilience and survival.
