First visuals of Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore after landing on Earth

After over nine months in space, astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are finally back on Earth.

They spent over nine months at the International Space Station (ISS) due to unexpected delays.

The astronauts returned home aboard SpaceX’s Dragon Freedom, which was sent as a rescue spacecraft.

The capsule splashed down at 5:57 pm ET on Tuesday (3:27 am IST, Wednesday).

They were joined by Nick Hague and Aleksandr Grebyonkin, who came to the ISS in December on a NASA and SpaceX rescue mission.

The astronauts travelled for 17 hours before reaching Earth.

An hour after landing, the astronauts waved and smiled for the cameras as they exited the capsule.

They were taken away in reclining stretchers for routine medical checks after their long stay in space.
