Gaikwad succeeded MS Dhoni as CSK captain for IPL 2024. Gaikwad was CSK's top scorer in IPL 2021 and 2022.

Gujarat Titans (GT)

Shubman Gill

For the first time, Gill will lead an IPL team under his captaincy. He made his IPL debut in 2018.

Delhi Capitals (DC)

Rishabh Pant

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

 Shreyas Iyer

Iyer was declared fit to play IPL 2024 after he suffered some discomfort in his back during the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

KL Rahul

Rahul was retained by LSG as the captain ahead of the mini-auction in 2023. He suffered a major injury in IPL 2023.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

Hardik Pandya

Pandya's homecoming to MI marked the end of Rohit Sharma's captaincy. Pandya switched back to MI after leading the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023.

Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Shikhar Dhawan

Dhawan has represented four IPL franchises before switching to PBKS in 2022. He made his captaincy debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad before switching to full-time captaincy for PBKS in 2023 and 2024.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Sanju Samson

Samson was moved into a senior position and was named captain for the 2021 season. He is now a full-time captain of RR.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis is set to return as RCB's captain this season. He was released by CSK in the 2022 mega auction and was roped in by RCB as a skipper after Virat Kohli stepped down from the role.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins replaced Aiden Markram as SRH's captain and returned to IPL after a year's gap, owing to ODI World Cup preparations.
