National Consumer Rights Day: 6 rights every consumer should know

The Consumer Protection Act was passed and adopted on December 24. Since then, every year National Consumer Rights Day is observed on December 24 to raise awareness about consumer rights in India.

Here are the six consumer rights every consumer should know about.

Right to safety

Before purchasing an item, you must look for the quality of the item and seek a guarantee of the product. The right to safety guarantees safe purchase of items with an ISI or AGMARK certification.

Right to choose

All consumers should have the right to choose from a variety of goods and products. Make sure to evaluate a range of products before buying an item and buy at a fair price. 

Right to be informed

This right guarantees information about every detail of the product to the consumer. Every time you go out to buy something, make sure to purchase the products as an informed consumer.

Right to be heard

The right to be heard can be practised when you want your interests as a consumer to be heard on appropriate forums. It also includes the right to be represented for the consumer's welfare.

Right to seek redressal

This right provides the power to seek redressal against unfair practices and exploitation to consumers. It includes the right to fair settlement of the consumer's grievances. 

Right to consumer education

This right allows a consumer to acquire knowledge and skills to be an informed consumer to prevent exploitation. One must also know how to exercise their rights.
