6 forts in Rajasthan that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Rajasthan is home to magnificent palaces and majestic forts worth exploring. Known for its rich culture and noteworthy heritage, Rajasthan is a perfect place to visit this season.

Here are some amazing forts in Rajasthan that have been declared as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Chittorgarh Fort

The Turkish ruler Alauddin Khilji captured this fort after he defeated Ratan Singh and took over the Mewar kingdom. It also has palaces and temples inside its premises. This fort offers a stunning view of lakes and Mewar architecture. 

Kumbalgarh Fort

This fort preserves more than 300 temples, and its beautiful architecture resonates with the vibrant culture and history of Rajasthan. A ruler of the Sisodia Rajput community known as Rana Kumba designed this magnificent fort. 

Ranthambore Fort

Built in the mid-10th century during Sapaldaksha's reign, this place features the ruins of Ranthambore Fort. This fort surrounds several Hindu and Jain temples featuring unique architecture worth exploring.

Jaisalmer Fort

This fort is one of the beautiful monuments featuring Rajputana architecture. It shelters a small town inhabited by the locals of Jaisalmer. It features skillfully carved engravings, royal palaces and temples.

Amber Fort

Amber Fort is the largest fort in Jaipur, the pink city. Man Singh I, the first war chief of Emperor Akbar, constructed this marble and red sandstone fort in 1592. It shelters palaces and temples featuring picturesque architecture.

Gagron Fort

This fort is surrounded by water on three sides and a forest on the fourth. Built in the 7th century, the Gagron Fort features aesthetic design and Rajputana history.
