Many people fast for health or religious reasons. However, fasting can get challenging and pose risks. Here are five essential tips to remember if you plan to go on a fast.

Stay hydrated

Have plenty of fluids while fasting to prevent dehydration and fatigue. If you can't consume water while fasting, drink enough fluids beforehand. 

Keep yourself distracted 

Keep yourself distracted to avoid breaking your fast unintentionally. Engage yourself in activities that require less energy such as meditation or a short walk.

Cut down on sugar before fasting

Cut down on your sugar intake before heading into a fast, as when your blood sugar levels plunge, it will make you feel more hungry.

Get enough sleep

It is important to prioritise your body's energy levels when fasting. Get plenty of rest and sufficient sleep to avoid fatigue.

Eat a balanced diet rich in protein and fibre before starting your fast to help keep you full and satiated throughout the day.
