Mumbai rains: Scary visuals of strong dust storms, heavy rains lashing the city

Strong winds and dust storms, followed by heavy rainfall battered Mumbai on May 13. Terrifying visuals of the storm engulfing the city are doing rounds on the internet.

A large billboard collapsed in Ghatkopar due to the gusty winds, killing fourteen people and injuring at least 76.

"Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and light to moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai during next 3-4 hours."

Neighbouring cities Thane and Satara also witnessed heavy rains.

Flight operations at the Mumbai Airport remained suspended for around 66 minutes due to low visibility. Operations resumed at 17:00 hrs. The airport also witnessed 15 diversions.

Metro services remained suspended between Aarey and Andheri East after a banner fell on the overheard wire due to the strong winds.

A "weather enthusiast" took to X to share terrifying visuals from Mumbai amidst massive dust storms. The user wrote, "Day of massive dust storm with blinding rains. Lots of incidents in the city. Some visuals of the day across Mumbai."

The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) of Mumbai issued a yellow alert for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Solapur, Latur, Beed, Nagpur, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.
