ISRO's 6 upcoming space missions in 2024

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has an eventful and ambitious year planned ahead with several space exploration missions lined-up for 2024. From Gaganyaan 1 to Mangalyaan 2, here are the 6 major upcoming space missions.

NISAR

NISAR is a joint mission between NASA and ISRO which involves the launch of a synthetic aperture radar satellite. The data collected will help provide an understanding of Earth’s ecosystems and natural hazards including earthquakes, tsunamis and landslides.

Gaganyaan 1

It is a collaborative mission between ISRO and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). Scheduled to launch between January and February 2024, Gaganyaan will be a test flight for India's manned space mission, set to carry three crew members.

Mangalyaan-2 (MOM 2)

Mangalyaan-2, also known as Mars Orbiter Mission 2 is ISRO's second mission to planet Mars. It aims to study the planet's surface, atmosphere, and climatic conditions.

Shukrayaan-1 (Venus Orbiter Mission)

ISRO will launch a spacecraft to Venus for the first time, which will orbit the planet for five years. The data collected will be used to study the planet's atmosphere.

X-ray Polarimeter Satellite

This satellite will be launched into the orbit in the first half of 2024 with the objective of studying the polarisation of cosmic X-rays. The satellite will be operational in orbit for at least five years.

INSAT 3DS

The Indian National Satellite System (INSAT) 3DS mission planned to be launched in January 2024 is aimed to monitor the weather system, facilitate disaster management and improve meteorological forecasts.
