According to IMD, Cyclone 'Biparjoy' is expected to move northwards and gradually intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in 24 hours

According to the weather agency, the sea conditions will remain very high along and off Kerala-Karnataka, Lakshadweep-Maldives and Konkan-Goa-Maharashtra coasts

PTI reported, "Weather agency Skymet Weather has said that the monsoon onset may happen on June 8 or June 9 but it is expected to be a meek and mild entry”

IMD also stated that Mumbai and Konkan regions are expected to receive rainfall till June 12. Maharashtra will witness strong winds, scattered rainfall and high tides along its coast till June 10

The cyclone has been named 'Biparjoy' (prononced as Biporjoy) by Bangladesh. It means calamity or disaster. The name was adopted by World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) countries in 2020
