Anant Ambani unveils Reliance's animal welfare initiative 'Vantara'

Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation director Anant Ambani unveiled an animal welfare initiative called Vantara (Star of the Forest) programme on February 26.

Here's everything you need to know about the welfare initiative.

The Vantara programme will focus on the rescue, treatment, care and rehabilitation of injured, abused and threatened animals both in India and abroad.

The initiative has been conceptualised under the leadership of Anant Ambani, a director on the boards of RIL and Reliance Foundation.

Vantara's core aim is to create best-in-class animal conservation and care practices including state-of-the-art healthcare, hospitals, research and academic centres.

The initiative is a joint effort of reputed international institutions including the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF).

In the last few years, the programme has helped rescue more than 200 elephants and several other animals, reptiles, and birds from hazardous situations.

The Vantara programme has also helped in rescue missions in countries like Mexico and Venezuela.

While launching Vantara, Anant Ambani said, "We are focused on protecting critically endangered species native to India."

He also said that some of India's and the world's top zoological and medical experts have joined the Vantara mission.
