10 stunning images of nebulae by NASA that are named after animals

The US space agency NASA frequently shares images of nebulae. Many nebulae are named after animals because of their distinctive resemblance.

Here are some spectacular images of nebulae named after animals.

This beautiful image was captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. It shows Cat's Eye Nebula that has an eye-like center surrounded by gas and dust.

This beautiful image of the Monkey Head Nebula or NGC 2174 was captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. It lies about 6400 light-years away in the constellation Orion.

This gorgeous image of the Jellyfish Nebula was shared by NASA as one of the Astronomy Pictures of the Day. It shows a cosmic jellyfish created from a cloud of dust and smoke following a stellar explosion.

This mosaic image of the Tarantula Nebula was captured by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope's NIRCam. It shows a star-forming region with massive young clusters of stars.

This captivating image of the Butterfly Nebula or NGC 6302 was captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. It shows gorgeous shades of blue, yellow and purple gas forming wings.

This spectacular image of the Snake Nebula was shared by NASA as its Astronomy Picture of the Day. The distinctive S-shape of the Snake Nebula is formed by dark clouds of gas and dust amidst star clusters.

This striking image of the Horsehead Nebula was captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope in the constellation Orion. It shows pillars of gas and dust of the nebula in infrared light.

Captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, this mesmerising image of the Eagle Nebula shows a tower of gas and dust rising from the stellar nursery. It is 9.5 light-years away from Earth.

This amazing image is a composite view of the Crab nebula, a supernova remnant in Earth's Milky Way galaxy. It shows a wispy and filamentary cloud of gas and dust in bright shades of violet and purple.

This gorgeous image of the Elephant's Trunk Nebula was shared by NASA as it's Astronomy Picture of the Day. It is over 20 light-years long.
