Dumbledore to Snape: Who will play who in new Harry Potter series
Veteran actor John Lithgow is stepping into the iconic role of Albus Dumbledore. Fresh off his Olivier Award win for playing Roald Dahl in the stage play Giant—which is soon headed to the West End.

Paapa Essiedu takes on the complex character of Severus Snape. Known for his breakout role in I May Destroy You, Essiedu has since become a familiar face thanks to projects like Gangs of London and The Lazarus Project.
Oscar-nominated actress Janet McTeer will don the tartan robes of Professor McGonagall. With film credits likeWuthering Heights, Albert Nobbs, and The Menu, McTeer is equally accomplished on the small screen, having appeared in Ozark and Jessica Jones.

Bringing a warm and familiar charm to Hagrid is Nick Frost. A favorite in British comedy circles, Frost is best known for his work alongside Simon Pegg in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, and Paul.

Rounding out the ensemble is Luke Thallon, who’ll portray the nervous Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Quirinus Quirrell. He has impressed in productions like Patriots, Albion, and Leopoldstadt, and recently led Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
