Cannes 2024 best actress Anasuya Sengupta scripts history

Indian actor Anasuya Sengupta scripted history at the prestigious 77th Cannes Film Festival by becoming the first Indian actor to win the Best Actress award.

Anasuya was conferred with the Best Actress award at the Un Certain Regard segment for her role in the film The Shameless, directed by a Bulgarian filmmaker Constantin Bojanov.

The Shameless revolves around a sex worker who flees a Delhi brothel after stabbing a policeman. 

Anasuya dedicated the award "to the queer community" in an interview with HT. 

The actor was born in Kolkata and graduated with an English degree. Her acting career began with a supporting role in the 2009 film Madly Bangalee. 

Anasuya then shifted to Mumbai in 2013. She worked with production designing and was also a part of the hit drama series Masaba Masaba.
