University of Manchester shares 6 tips to stay calm and prepare for an interview

It is natural to feel worried and nervous while preparing for an interview. The nervousness increases when you are appearing for a first-time interview. To calm down your nerves and prepare well for an interview, the University of Manchester has shared 6 important tips here.

Change your Thinking: Notice any worries you have, write them down, or share them with someone you trust. Test the accuracy of these worries by asking yourself or the person you trust. Build up your confidence by focusing on the positives and reviewing your achievements.

Change Your Body Language: Adopting a positive posture will make you feel calmer. The best way to calm down is to smile. Smiling makes you feel happier because it releases the body’s natural feel-good chemicals in the brain.

Move to release any tension: If you're feeling tense, do some exercises that will help you work out any excess adrenaline and will make you feel better by releasing the body’s natural mood-enhancing chemicals. Try to go for a walk and get some fresh air.

Change Your Breathing: Breathing more deeply and taking twice as long to breathe out than breathing in will have a calming effect. Breathe in for a count of 6 and out for a count of 12. This will, in turn, help calm your racing mind and level out your voice.

Relax Your Muscles: To help you feel calm, try relaxing your shoulders and facial muscles. Practice this activity by doing a body scan exercise or trying guided relaxation techniques.

Eat Healthy: When someone is anxious, they usually lose their appetite or feel like eating more. But this does not help. Maintaining a healthy balance will help you remain calm and in control.
