5 times crocodiles took over Gujarat’s Vadodara and left people scared

Massive floods in Gujarat caused by incessant rainfall have left people with a new challenge: a crocodile invasion.

A large number of reptiles have thronged the city. Scary visuals of the crocodiles perched on roofs of houses or lying on roads have gone viral.

What caused the crocodiles to storm the city?

The Vishwamitri River, which runs through the city of Vadodara, is home to over 300 crocodiles. Rainwater is overflowing the waterbody, causing the reptiles to enter residential areas.

During the latest spell of rain, a crocodile was spotted on the roof of a house.

Another viral video shows forest officials rescuing a huge crocodile from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda campus.

This is not the first time Vadodara has dealt with crocodile invasion. Here are five more times the reptiles were spotted in residential areas.

In 2019, forest officials and wildlife activists rescued 52 crocodiles from Vadodara after a flash flood hit the district.

A chilling moment from 2019 showing an interaction between rescuers and a crocodile.

Six men worked in tandem to capture and rescue a crocodile of considerable size in 2020.

In 2020, an 8-foot-long crocodile was rescued from the Manjalpur area.

In 2021, an 11-foot-long crocodile made its way onto a construction site in the Kelanpur area of Vadodara. It was later rescued.
